A Note from the Principal
At Butler Primary School I am extremely lucky to share wonderful interactions with our staff, students and families, and every now and again when a ‘sensational’ moment occurs it makes me stop and think about how lucky I am.
If you have ever sat and googled gratitude, one comes up with pages and pages of suggestions. It is important to realise that just having “things” doesn’t always equate to gratitude. Showing gratitude is much more than a simple’ thanks’ without further thought.
Practising gratitude daily goes a long way to improving your happiness in all areas of your life. Gratitude opens the door to more relationships, improves physical and psychological health, enhances empathy and reduces aggression, helps with sleep and improves self-esteem.
We live in such a busy world. Sometimes we need to take stock and ‘smell the roses’ as they say and be thankful. Remember to let the people in your life know just how much you appreciate them.
Take time and think about when was the last time you performed a random act of kindness?
As Principal, I get to see a large proportion of students in a variety of settings. I continue to be impressed with the respectful nature the vast majority of students demonstrate on a daily basis. I also get to see the professionalism of our staff, who do such a great job in educating our students. When I say ‘staff’ I refer to teachers and support staff. At the moment, it is especially busy and all have earned a well-deserved break.
I would like to wish all staff, students and their families a happy and safe break.
Mrs Julie Woodhouse
Principal

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability Butler Primary School is required to collect data about students with a disability and/or learning difficulties. We have been asked to provide data about the health and learning needs of children at Butler Primary School. The name of the school and the name of the students will not be reported. Information about the type of needs, programs and resources the school uses to overcome barriers and support children with special educational needs will be collected. This data will help the government and the department develop better policies that acknowledge the level of funding and resources needed in schools to meet the needs of all students in Western Australia. If you would like to learn more about the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability, contact the Western Australian Department of Education NCCD Helpline on 0477 741 598. |

Farewell and Thank you We would like to sincerely thank the pre-service teachers from ECU for the huge contribution they have made to Butler Primary School in Term Two. We wish them all the very best for their future studies and careers in education. We would also like to thank Mrs Wendy Clements who has been teaching on Mondays and Tuesdays in Room 11. She has been a very valuable member of the Year 3 team and her dedication to the students in her care has been truly appreciated by all. We wish Wendy lots of luck in her future endeavours. Welcome Back We will be welcoming back Mrs Laura Romano in Term Three. She is returning from leave and will be teaching in Room 11 on Mondays and Tuesdays. |

Notice to all Parents Students arriving late to school after the siren sounds at 8.35am, need to enter the school through the front office to collect a late note which is to be given to their class teacher. This will help alleviate the problem of parents receiving an SMS at 10.00am advising that their child is absent when in fact they are at school. |

WA Day

WHAT’S ON IN?...........
Year 3 – D1
The Year 3’s in D1 have been enjoying using the Zones of Regulation to communicate their feelings and to get into the green zone, ready to learn. Each morning the students in D1 move their faces to show what zone they are in and then think of a strategy to use to get into the Green Zone. During the day we will do a Zones circle to discuss what zone we are in and why or we will do a smiling mind meditation to help calm down from all the excitement of lunchtime!

Miss Goodin
Year 2 – D2
On Thursday 7 June it was D2's Assembly. The children wrote about winter and why they liked the cooler weather. They then read a few sentences about what they do in winter to keep warm.
This was followed by the old song 'Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head' from the movie 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.' The weather on the day was perfect for the song and the winter topic. The parents, grandparents and visitors joined us in the classroom after the Assembly for some Morning Tea.

Mrs Marsh & Mrs Pierce
Year 3 – D7
This term in D7, we have been having a fantastic time learning about Digital Technologies. We have been so clever, studying how to code. This involves creating computer programs where we collaborate with others, develop our problem-solving skills and persist through tough tasks, even when we get frustrated. We have learnt programming concepts and computational thinking through coding interactive games. Our main focus has been on creating algorithms, identifying bugs and debugging, consolidating our learning by reflecting in our journals. As well as working on the iPads, we have been writing codes by hand and even participated in a relay programming completion in our class. D7 has looked forward to our Wednesday afternoons, eager to be challenged whilst having fun along the way.

Miss Kelly
Year 3 - Room 11
This term students in room 11 have been working hard on their phonics and spelling. We love using our mini whiteboards to play spelling games. These games help us practise reading and writing words and learn our focus sounds for the week. We have shown great teamwork as we work together to help one another develop in spelling.

Mrs Gouges
Parent Parking
To help ease congestion around the school during peak times we encourage families to walk their children to and from school wherever possible, especially in fine weather or park at the Community Centre car park and walk your children across the oval.
All Staff park at the front of the school. This will free up all bays in the public car park off Cambourne Way.
Families are reminded that parking is not permitted on grassed kerbside areas around the Pre-primary car park and along Tollesbury Avenue, as well as the bricked median strip in Cambourne Parkway or across any footpaths. Parking is also not permitted in bus bays. Please consider the safety of all other road users and pedestrians when parking and leaving schools grounds.
Please also give consideration and respect to owners of properties surrounding the school.
All usual road and parking rules apply around the school and parking fines are issued by rangers (who visit frequently) to those not adhering to the road rules.
School Payment Options Available
Butler Primary School now has eftpos facilities available in the front office!
Payment methods for charges and contributions can now be made via:
- Eftpos
- Cash or Cheque (please use the school money envelopes and place the sealed envelope in the black letter boxes. The boxes are located in the wet areas of each of the blocks and the office)
- Direct Deposit (reference student name and payment
description.)

Absentee Messaging Service
Due to the ease of this service, the sending of a text message to Butler Primary School to notify us of your child/ren’s absence has been embraced by many families. Please send absentee messages through to 0419 091 075 with all of the following details so we can correctly update student records:
- Full name of your child/children
- Reason for absence
- Date of absence
Absences can also be phoned through to the office on 9562 1804.
As per Department of Education policy, it is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school of the reason for your child’s absence/s within three days of the absence. Failure to do this will mean that the absence will be marked as “unacceptable reason” affecting your child’s education and attendance record.
Students Arriving Late
Any student arriving late to school, after the siren sounds at 8.35am, will need to enter the school through the front office to collect a late note which is to be given to their class teacher.
Update Student Contact Information
If you have recently changed mobile numbers or moved address, it is important you update your contact information with the office. Please also advise if there is a change to any of your emergency contact information.
Siren Times
Please note the change in time for recess and lunch this year. The start and finish times for school remain the same.
