Notices for all Parents

Arriving Late

Students arriving late to school, after the siren sounds at 8.35am, need to enter the school through the front office to collect a late note which is to be given to their class teacher. This will help alleviate the problem of parents receiving an SMS at 10.00am advising that their child is absent when in fact they are at school.

2019 School Planning

Parents please advise the school front office as soon as possible if your child/children will not be attending Butler PS in 2019. Thank you

School App

Have you downloaded the Butler Primary School App? It is a great way to be notified of school news and events along with quick and easy access to school event information, the school calendar, newsletters, canteen info, absentee notification and more!

During school hours pedestrian entry and exit is only available via the front gate on Tollesbury Avenue.

Room D1 Assembly - 25 October 2018

On Thursday, 25th October, D1 presented their assembly which was all about how they learn to be helpful and happy community members at Butler Primary School.

We have learnt about our emotions and the zones that they could fit into. Blue zone is for low energy feelings such as being sad, tired or bored. Green is the perfect balance that we strive for, which is feeling, calm and ready to learn. Yellow is high energy feelings such as; silly, nervous, excited and frustrated. Red Zone is out of control feelings such as; mad, extremely frustrated, petrified and elated. The students dressed up in the zones colours and shared their strategies for getting into the Green Zone. Shawn shared how he uses a stress ball to calm down. Ben likes to talk to his dad when he is feeling scared. Kelsey goes to the book corner and Summer distracts herself when she is feeling sad. Despite some technical issues, D1 did an awesome job showing off their dance moves to ‘Can’t Stop this Feeling’. The children are to be congratulated for enjoying their special day and for speaking so clearly into the microphone.

Room 8 Assembly – 1 November 2018

Students of Room 8 performed their assembly on Thursday, 1st November, in which they delved into all things Science and explained all about the layers of the earth. The class rapped it out to ‘The Layers of the Earth’, not only showing off their Science knowledge but their singing and dancing talents too. Students spent weeks memorising lyrics, choreographing and rehearsing their dance moves to showcase our assembly. It was a huge success and students thoroughly loved singing whilst also re-capping their Science knowledge! An extraordinary performance by Room 8!

Room D7 Assembly – 8 November 2018

D7 presented their assembly in Week 5. This assembly was all about the students reflecting on their favourite and memorable moments that have taken place during their time in Year 3. They focussed on particular achievements and participation of memories personal to them. As it was Maths week, we also incorporated our favourite ‘3D Shape Song’ and shared how students of D7 learn about 3D shapes and their relation to the real world in fun and interesting ways. We also shared our favourite brain break song, ‘Pop See Ko’, which we use in between lessons to get our brains thinking and staying active. The students did a great job – well done D7!

WHAT’S ON IN…

Year 6

The Year Six students had the incredible opportunity to spend three days and two nights at Karem Camp between the 19th September and 21st of September. Camp provided students the opportunity to participate in physical, social, and problem solving activities which enhanced their interpersonal, leadership and decision making skills. Students engaged in activities such as aerial golf, abseiling, low ropes, orienteering, treasure hunt, team building and night glow sports during their camp experience. This all culminated in a wonderful colour war on the final day which gave the students an opportunity to compete against the teachers and of course cover them in all colours of the rainbow! Students stepped out of their comfort zone by conquering their fear of heights and persevering with challenging activities. The camp was a huge success and students should be commended on their ability to represent the school values of Respect, Responsibility, Community, Integrity, and Aspire.

Year 6 Teachers

Chaplain’s Corner

Hi Everyone,

I hope this finds you well and that you are having a great week.

This brings us to Week 6, and that means we are more than halfway through the term! Keep up the great work and please keep taking care of yourself, so that you can finish the term well. And, enjoy your well deserved holiday

Coming to the end of a year, we can start to feel tired and weary. This is when we need to increase our self care and pace ourselves where we can. With the end of the year approaching, we tend to become busier, so try to take time to stop and enjoy the ‘now’. Be present in the moment. We miss so much, rushing from one thing to another.

Have a look at ‘Smiling Mind’ a free mindfulness app. This has lots of great information, tips and mindfulness sessions, for all age groups. Something you could get involved with as a family. Perhaps it can become a part of each day helping to calm your thoughts and give your mind the break it needs. And enabling us to cope better with every day stresses.

Our students learn about mindfulness at school, and many of our teachers will put a mindfulness session on during the day. Some in the morning to start the day off on a good note, and others after lunch to give the students a moment to still their minds and bodies before re-entering their learning space.

Looking after our minds helps us to manage our emotions and regulate our behaviour. These are very valuable and important life skills/tools for our children to be learning and applying.

Kind regards,

Ms Vangi Hunter
School Chaplain
