A Note from the Principal
Our School Our Future
As professional educators, our responsibilities have always extended beyond maximising the academic outcomes of our students. There is a strong human side to teaching that values relationships, engagement, support and respect.

Butler Primary School has identified 5 core values that define us as a positive school community. Respect, Responsibility, Community, Integrity and Aspire are embedded into our teaching and learning programs and influence our actions and behaviours every day.
Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day –missing school puts them behind. If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school.
There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses can put them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes. Attendance patterns are established early – a child who regularly misses days in kindergarten or in the early years of school will often continue to miss classes in the later years, and achievement is often than their classmates. It’s vital that students come to school every day – even in Kindergarten.
Did you know that if your child misses 3 weeks of school per year they will have missed half a year of school by the end of year 6?
Thank you to our fabulous parents who get their child/children to school every day and who trust us and support us in doing the most important job of all - educating the students in our care.

Asthma and your child at school Asthma Friendly School Open communication with staff at your child’s school will help the school provide a safe and supportive environment for your child with asthma. Please make sure that your child’s school is provided with an Asthma Action Plan; an Asthma Action Plan should be reviewed regularly by your child’s doctor, and the school notified of any changes. An Asthma Action plan can also include information for the school if your child requires asthma medications prior to sport or at any other time during school hours. Ensure that your child has their blue reliever puffer and a spacer with them at school, or that this is kept in a place where the child can access it. Discuss with your child what their early asthma symptoms might be, and help them to feel comfortable asking teachers for assistance if they are having asthma symptoms. If your child is having difficulty recognizing symptoms or using his or her medications, please contact us 1800 278 462 ask@asthmawa.org.au https://www.asthmaaustralia.org.au/ArticleDocuments/1073/AA%20First%20Aid%20FLOWCHART.pdf.aspx https://www.asthmaaustralia.org.au/ArticleDocuments/1073/AAP_DoHA.pdf.aspx |

Notice to all Parents Students arriving late to school after the siren sounds at 8.35am, need to enter the school through the front office to collect a late note which is to be given to their class teacher. This will help alleviate the problem of parents receiving an SMS at 10.00am advising that their child is absent when in fact they are at school. |

WHAT’S ON IN?...........
Year 2 – Rm 2
Budding Poets
During the first two weeks of this term the Year 2 students in our class have been learning personification and simile within poetry. They have been coming up with creative thoughts and translated those into words to produce imaginative poetry, which is a pleasure to read. They have been also learning about local history. They have been using QR codes to find information about John Butler. He is the man whom our suburb and school is named after. They have written facts on an information web and then turned this into an informational text.

Mrs Gaston
Year 2 – D2
This is News time in D2. Our topic this week is ‘Something That Makes Me Proud.’ The children are practising for their Oral Presentation, which is later in the term.

Mrs Marsh & Mrs Pierce
Year 2 - D4
This term the students from D4 have working very hard to learn new concepts in Mathematics. We have been learning how to add and subtract numbers as well using balancing scales and informal units to measure the length of items in our classroom. We are such clever Mathematicians!

Miss Letcher
Year 2 – D5
In D5, during our Maths sessions, we have been learning how to measure distance, mass and capacity and volume. Our team discovered that we use centimetres (cm) and metres (m) to measure length. When we experimented with capacity and volume we were able to distinguish between empty, full, half full and ¾’s full. We also discovered that the objects we use to measure and compare with must be the same. Our favourite way to learn is in teams. We LOVE learning!

Mrs Davidson
Parent Parking
To help ease congestion around the school during peak times we encourage families to walk their children to and from school wherever possible, especially in fine weather or park at the Community Centre car park and walk your children across the oval.
All Staff park at the front of the school. This will free up all bays in the public car park off Cambourne Way.
Families are reminded that parking is not permitted on grassed kerbside areas around the Pre-primary car park and along Tollesbury Avenue, as well as the bricked median strip in Cambourne Parkway or across any footpaths. Parking is also not permitted in bus bays. Please consider the safety of all other road users and pedestrians when parking and leaving schools grounds.
Please also give consideration and respect to owners of properties surrounding the school.
All usual road and parking rules apply around the school and parking fines are issued by rangers (who visit frequently) to those not adhering to the road rules.
School Payment Options Available
Butler Primary School now has eftpos facilities available in the front office!
Payment methods for charges and contributions can now be made via:
- Eftpos
- Cash or Cheque (please use the school money envelopes and place the sealed envelope in the black letter boxes. The boxes are located in the wet areas of each of the blocks and the office)
- Direct Deposit (reference student name and payment
description.)

Absentee Messaging Service
Due to the ease of this service, the sending of a text message to Butler Primary School to notify us of your child/ren’s absence has been embraced by many families. Please send absentee messages through to 0419 091 075 with all of the following details so we can correctly update student records:
- Full name of your child/children
- Reason for absence
- Date of absence
Absences can also be phoned through to the office on 9562 1804.
As per Department of Education policy, it is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school of the reason for your child’s absence/s within three days of the absence. Failure to do this will mean that the absence will be marked as “unacceptable reason” affecting your child’s education and attendance record.
Students Arriving Late
Any student arriving late to school, after the siren sounds at 8.35am, will need to enter the school through the front office to collect a late note which is to be given to their class teacher.
Update Student Contact Information
If you have recently changed mobile numbers or moved address, it is important you update your contact information with the office. Please also advise if there is a change to any of your emergency contact information.
Siren Times
Please note the change in time for recess and lunch this year. The start and finish times for school remain the same.

Donating Uniforms
Butler Primary School is seeking donations of uniforms, including polo shirts, dresses and suitable navy bottoms, especially in sizes 8-12. If you are able to assist please drop the clean clothing at the front office.
From the Library

Welcome to Term 2!
The Library is ticking along nicely with all students enjoying their weekly visits and making their own choices in borrowing books.
Parents and caregivers, please assist us by ensuring your children use a library bag or their take home folders for their library books. This helps our precious resources remain clean and undamaged.
Mrs Pengelly and Mrs Dowrick
Chaplain’s Corner
HELLO Everyone,
I hope this finds you well, and that the start of Term 2 has been a great one for you. Hopefully the recent school holidays were a time for rest, and a time to recharge for you and your family.
I have been running two programs at school this year: “In Real Life” - A girl’s program for girls in Years 4-6.
“In Real Life” runs for 7 weeks (1 session a week). Topics which are covered include:
- Making friends
- Managing gossip
- Resolving conflict
- Family relationships
- Managing thoughts and emotions
- Safe use of social media
- Strengths and support networks.
“Seasons for Growth” – A grief and loss program for students in Years 1-6.
“Seasons for Growth” runs for 8 weeks (1 session a week). This is an innovative education program for children and explores the effects of change, loss and grief. Children explore feelings, memories, choices, and what they can do to help them navigate their way through the grief process.
Thought For the Day –

… On that note, have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Kind regards,
Ms Hunter
