Parents…………

Please advise the school front office as soon as possible if your child/children will not be attending Butler PS in 2018.

Thank you

Notice to all Parents

Students arriving late to school after the siren sounds at 8.30am, need to enter the school through the front office to collect a late note which is to be given to their class teacher. This will help alleviate the problem of parents receiving an SMS at 10.00am advising that their child is absent when in fact they are at school.

Maths Week

Last week, Butler Primary School had a week filled with mysteries and problems to celebrated Maths Week.

The Library was bustling each morning with students and parents attempting the daily problem solving challenges and the World of Maths incursion was enjoyed by students and parents from Pre Primary to Year 6.

Each day after lunch, Year 1 to 6 students took part in a daily Beat That Challenge! The effort from the students was outstanding with over 120 children receiving a medal for moving up to the next level in their challenge.

Students also enjoyed a take home Maths Mystery which they puzzled through throughout the week with their families. Over the next two weeks, students from each year group, who correctly completed and returned their Maths Mystery, will be receiving extended play to reward their efforts.

Altogether, Maths Week added up to a fabulous week filled with fun learning experiences for everyone to take a way.

Parent Parking

To help ease congestion around the school during peak times we encourage families to walk their children to and from school wherever possible, especially in fine weather or park at the Community Centre car park and walk your children across the oval.

All Staff park at the front of the school. This will free up all bays in the public car park off Cambourne Way.

Families are reminded that parking is not permitted on grassed kerbside areas around the Pre-primary car park and along Tollesbury Avenue, as well as the bricked median strip in Cambourne Parkway or across any footpaths. Parking is also not permitted in bus bays. Please consider the safety of all other road users and pedestrians when parking and leaving schools grounds.

Please also give consideration and respect to owners of properties surrounding the school.

All usual road and parking rules apply around the school and parking fines are issued by rangers (who visit frequently) to those not adhering to the road rules. Please download the map below for parent parking information.

School Payment Options Available

Butler Primary School now has eftpos facilities available in the front office!

Payment methods for charges and contributions can now be made via:

  • Eftpos
  • Cash or Cheque (please use the school money envelopes and place the sealed envelope in the black letter boxes. The boxes are located in the wet areas of each of the blocks and the office)

Absentee Messaging Service

Due to the ease of this service, the sending of a text message to Butler Primary School to notify us of your child/ren’s absence has been embraced by many families.

Please send absentee messages through to 0419 091 075 with all of the following details so we can correctly update student records:

  • Full name of your child/children
  • Reason for absence
  • Date of absence

Absences can also be phoned through to the office on 9562 1804.

As per Department of Education policy, it is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school of the reason for your child’s absence/s within three days of the absence. Failure to do this will mean that the absence will be marked as “unacceptable reason” affecting your child’s education and attendance record.

Students Arriving Late

Any student arriving late to school, after the siren sounds at 8.35am, will need to enter the school through the front office to collect a late note which is to be given to their class teacher.

Update Student Contact Information

If you have recently changed mobile numbers or moved address, it is important you update your contact information with the office. Please also advise if there is a change to any of your emergency contact information.

Siren Times

Please note the change in time for recess and lunch this year. The start and finish times for school remain the same.

Donating Uniforms

Butler Primary School is seeking donations of uniforms, including polo shirts, dresses and suitable navy bottoms, especially in sizes 8-12. If you are able to assist please drop the clean clothing at the front office.

From the Library

We would like to send a big thank you to all the wonderful parents who supported this year’s Scholastic Book Fair. Due to your generosity we have been able to supplement our literacy collections, as well as our senior fiction and junior fiction collections. Although it is a very busy week for us, we enjoy the pleasure your children experience in the books for sale.

As with every book fair, it would not be the success it is without the help of our extraordinary Year 6 Library Monitors, or without the help of Miss G-F and Miss J.

Senior Science students have their work on display in the Library. Year 5 have created informational posters on the Sun and Year 6 students have produced cross-sectional models of the Earth. Please come into the Library before or after school and view these outstanding works.

Chaplain’s Corner

HI Everyone,

I hope you have settled into the term nicely and are doing well. The midway mark of Term 4 is fast approaching, and I feel as if we only just started! Time moves by very quickly and there is much to be missed when we don’t take moments to stop and just ‘be’.

In this busy world we live in, rushing from one place to another, it’s important that we are taking time out to stop and take a breather. Looking after our mental, emotional and spiritual health is as important as looking after our physical health.

The simple act of breathing can be used to bring us to a quiet and still place of relaxation.

Focusing on the breath is a great place to start. It’s simple: pay attention to your breath.

It can be helpful to choose an area of the body in which you feel the breath the most strongly – e.g. the belly, the chest. Then, just notice the sensations of breathing – this is different from thinking about the breath. What we are doing here is feeling the expansion as the chest and the belly rise on the in-breath… and noticing the contraction as the chest and the belly fall on the out-breath.

Wishing everyone a fantastic fortnight ahead, and I hope you find some time to take a break, breathe and enjoy this beautiful season of spring!

Kind regards,

Ms Hunter

SCHOOL DISCO

The P&C will be holding an end of year disco towards the end of this term. (Dates and times to be confirmed.) The disco groups will be Kindy & Pre-Primary, Years 1 to 3 and Years 4 to 6. As part of the Future Games competition, students can download and play the new Future Savers app from the App Store or Google Play from Monday 16 October 2017. The Future Savers app features augmented reality, letting students explore the future world, play games and learn about money with the Dollarmites in 3D.

Students who play the Future Savers app and complete the online entry form during the competition period will get a chance to win one of 50 Nintendo Switch Neon Console Packs. They will also need to make three or more School Banking deposits during the competition period, which gives them a chance to win one of the High Tech Prizes as well, including racing robots, activity trackers and 3D pen sets.

After making 10 School Banking deposits, students can choose from the 3D Chalk Set, Colour Change Markers, Smiley Emoji Keyring, Volt Handball, Tablet Case, Pencil & Tech case or Epic earphones.

Prizes are available until stocks run out. To order their prize, students can put a note in their deposit book with their name, class and prize. If your child isn't sure how many tokens they have, they can put in a note in their deposit book or see me in the banking room (in the undercover area) on Thursday mornings.
