A Note from the Principal
As term 3 draws to a close I am privileged to continue to see fantastic developments happening in our classrooms and this is due to the hard work of our teachers.
Staff are always looking at ways to improve what they do. They are continually talking to their colleagues about teaching and learning, seeking feedback from others and talking to their students about what interests them.
Teaching is a challenging profession that involves building and making relationships with their students and managing the relationships that they have between each other. It is the profession that creates all other professions, and our teachers are doing it really well.
As educators and as a parent it’s also useful to reflect on the mental health habits that we promote in our students/children. Here are ten ways to promote good mental health and wellbeing.
- Model good mental health habits: If you, like many teachers/parents, live constantly with stress then consider ways to actively minimise it, such as getting regular exercise, plenty of sleep and doing relaxation exercises. Not only will this improve your mental health, and make you easier to live with, it will send a strong positive message that mental health is important.
- Make sure they get enough sleep: Sleep is one of the building blocks of mental health and wellbeing. Children need between 10 and 12 hours’ sleep to enable proper growth and development. One of the single most powerful strategies to improve children’s abilities to cope with stressful or changing situations is to ensure they get enough sleep.
- Encourage children to exercise
- Encourage creative outlets: It’s energizing and helps take stressed and worried children out of themselves.
- Provide a space of their own: Children of all ages benefit from having some space of their own where they can think.
- Talk about their troubles: Talking about what’s worrying you is a great way to remove the burden of worry and reduce anxiousness.
- Help them relax: Make sure children have time to chill out so they can relax naturally.
- Have two routines – weekday and weekend: It’s important to have time on the weekend to slow down
- Foster volunteering and helpfulness: Encourage children to be connected to and help others in any way possible.
- Bring fun and playfulness into their lives: Children should be the kings and queens of play. Make time for them to have some fun.
Have a safe and relaxing holiday break - take some time for your children's and your own wellbeing.

PP5 – Three Year Old Playgroup
Children and caregivers have enjoyed some fun and learning experiences in PP 5 this term each fortnight. The mornings began with outside play time where the children participated in activities to help the development of gross motor skills and social interaction. Every session included story time, fine motor activities, number experiences, and music and movement. If you are interested in joining us for Term 4 please register your interest at the school office.

Parent Parking
To help ease congestion around the school during peak times we encourage families to walk their children to and from school wherever possible, especially in fine weather or park at the Community Centre car park and walk your children across the oval.
All Staff park at the front of the school. This will free up all bays in the public car park off Cambourne Way.
Families are reminded that parking is not permitted on grassed kerbside areas around the Pre-primary car park and along Tollesbury Avenue, as well as the bricked median strip in Cambourne Parkway or across any footpaths. Parking is also not permitted in bus bays. Please consider the safety of all other road users and pedestrians when parking and leaving schools grounds.
Please also give consideration and respect to owners of properties surrounding the school.
All usual road and parking rules apply around the school and parking fines are issued by rangers (who visit frequently) to those not adhering to the road rules. Please download the map below for parent parking information.
School Payment Options Available
Butler Primary School now has eftpos facilities available in the front office!
Payment methods for charges and contributions can now be made via:
- Eftpos
- Cash or Cheque (please use the school money envelopes and place the sealed envelope in the black letter boxes. The boxes are located in the wet areas of each of the blocks and the office)
- Direct Deposit (reference student name and payment description.)
- BSB: 016 338
- Acc: 110391487
Absentee Messaging Service
Due to the ease of this service, the sending of a text message to Butler Primary School to notify us of your child/ren’s absence has been embraced by many families.
Please send absentee messages through to 0419 091 075 with all of the following details so we can correctly update student records:
* Full name of your child/children
* Reason for absence
* Date of absence
Absences can also be phoned through to the office on 9562 1804.
As per Department of Education policy, it is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school of the reason for your child’s absence/s within three days of the absence. Failure to do this will mean that the absence will be marked as “unacceptable reason” affecting your child’s education and attendance record.
Students Arriving Late
Any student arriving late to school, after the siren sounds at 8.35am, will need to enter the school through the front office to collect a late note which is to be given to their class teacher.
Update Student Contact Information
If you have recently changed mobile numbers or moved address, it is important you update your contact information with the office. Please also advise if there is a change to any of your emergency contact information.
Siren Times
Please note the change in time for recess and lunch this year. The start and finish times for school remain the same.

Mrs Pengelly and Mrs Dowrick
Chaplain’s Corner
Hello Everyone,
This brings us to Week 10. Our last week of Term 3! Looking back now, it seems to have flown by. I hope it has been a good term for you and you are looking forward to the break ahead.
Last week Thursday, 14th Sept, was “R U OK Day”. A day set aside to remind us to be looking out for one another and to stop for a moment, to ask someone if they are “OK”. Paying a little more attention to others and being aware that someone may not be doing “OK”. Something we should be doing every day as well as a reminder to ourselves to be looking after our own mental health.
Congratulations and well done to staff, students and families on a fantastic term and for all you have achieved!!!
Enjoy your well deserved holiday! Take time out to rest, recharge and have a break from your usual routine. Keep safe and happy.
Kind regards,
Ms Hunter
