A Note from the Principal
I’m sure you will all agree that this year seems to be flying by and we are now half way through Term 3. It’s been extremely busy and we have had class excursions, Science Week, State Cross Country, Book Week and our choir performing at One Big Voice Festival at Perth Arena. Our students and staff are now energetically preparing for our School Athletics Carnival. We hope to see you there cheering on your child.
As life is so busy for all of us we need to make sure we take the time to recharge and reset our brains to reduce stress and anxiety. There is growing research to show that we can train our brains to be ‘mindful’. This year our staff and students have been participating in some ‘mindfulness activities’ through some simple meditation and breathing exercises. One particularly easy activity that the students and staff have been practicing daily is the 5-3-1 method.
- 5 minutes of meditation – meditation can be done anywhere by simply concentrating on your breathing while at work or walking the dog.
- 3 things that you are grateful for – think of or write down 3 things that you are grateful for each day. These can be simple things like a joke shared with a friend.
- 1 act of kindness – this could be as simple as holding the door for someone or making them a cup of tea.
Why not have a go at the 5-3-1 method and see if it helps improve your health and wellbeing.

Parents………… Please advise the school front office as soon as possible if your child/children will not be attending Butler PS in 2018. Thank you |
|
Pre-Primary 2018 All children currently attending Kindergarten at Butler PS are required to apply for Pre-Primary 2018. Please return the tear off slip attached to the bottom of the acceptance letter to the office as soon as possible. This will finalise your child’s enrolment. Thank you |
|
Notice to all Parents Students arriving late to school after the siren sounds at 8.30am, need to enter the school through the front office to collect a late note which is to be given to their class teacher. This will help alleviate the problem of parents receiving an SMS at 10.00am advising that their child is absent when in fact they are at school. |
Woolworths Earn & Learn 2017
|
Dear Parents, This year we will be participating in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program. Through this program we will be able to get new educational resources for our school and all we need you to do is shop for your groceries at Woolworths. From Wednesday 26th July to Tuesday 19th September, we are collecting Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers. You will get one Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker for every $10 spent (excluding liquor, tobacco and gift cards). Place the Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker onto a Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheet and when it’s complete, the Sticker Sheet can be dropped into the Collection Box here at the school or at your local Woolworths. At the end of the promotion, we’ll be able to get some great new equipment. The range is extensive and offers lots of items ideal for our students – including resources for Maths, English, Science and some fantastic fun supplies for Arts & Craft, Sport and for our library. What’s on in………
Year 1 - Room 4
The Year Ones have been busy celebrating Science Week. They have been participating in many science based activities. The student’s participated in exciting rotations, involving, light, leaf tracing, creating bugs and experimenting with force. For the Science Week competition the students’ created plasticine boats. They carefully designed their boat to be able to float and hold weight. Well done Oliver Clarke, John Pene, Alexis Rees, Seth Hough, Ashton Brown, Billy Groves, Venutia Stergiou and Ayva Cook, these students made the final. Well done to the winner Oliver Clarke! He has won a gift voucher for the National Geographic Shop. The Year Ones also enjoyed the Science Incursion. Wow! What a fun week they have had!

Year 1 - Room 3 & 4
Well done Room 3 and Room 4 on a magnificent assembly item! With Book Week fast approaching the Year One students have been focusing on the features of a narrative. They have enjoyed reading lots of books and finding out about good characters and bad characters. We were very impressed with the adjectives they used to describe these characters. A big thank you to the families and carers who have once again put in a huge effort with the costumes and supporting the students. Congratulations again Room 3 and Room 4!

Year 3
This term, the Year 3 classes visited Wanneroo Regional Museum to learn about the History of our local area.
The students were able to participate in a variety of activities including investigating some interesting objects from the past, walking through exhibits of the Wanneroo suburb from the past and learning about the market gardens and farming that encouraged growth of the area through the years. The students, teachers and parent helpers all enjoyed the interactive displays and learnt so much about the History of our local community.
The students were also invited to visit the Wanneroo Art Gallery and observe the showcase "We All Sleep" featuring paintings and art work from aboriginal mother and son team, Sally Morgan and Ezekial Kwaymallina.
We had fantastic parent/family helpers on the day and would like to acknowledge all helpers for making the day so wonderful.

This term in Science the students have been learning about Chemistry. All classes have been taking part in a range of fun and engaging experiments. The Year 6 students made ice-cream to help them learn about physical, reversible and irreversible changes. The Year 4s are investigating the properties of materials and the Year 2s made play dough to help them understand mixtures and changes.
Last week, Butler PS celebrated National Science Week. The students were engaged in a variety of activities and challenges throughout the week. Thank you to all parents, grandparents and helpers who came and gave their support and help. Scitech Roadshow also visited to help us celebrate National Science Week. The students were mesmerised by the shows and learned many science concepts.

Parent Parking
To help ease congestion around the school during peak times we encourage families to walk their children to and from school wherever possible, especially in fine weather or park at the Community Centre car park and walk your children across the oval.
All Staff park at the front of the school. This will free up all bays in the public car park off Cambourne Way.
Families are reminded that parking is not permitted on grassed kerbside areas around the Pre-primary car park and along Tollesbury Avenue, as well as the bricked median strip in Cambourne Parkway or across any footpaths. Parking is also not permitted in bus bays. Please consider the safety of all other road users and pedestrians when parking and leaving schools grounds.
Please also give consideration and respect to owners of properties surrounding the school.
All usual road and parking rules apply around the school and parking fines are issued by rangers (who visit frequently) to those not adhering to the road rules. Please download the map below for parent parking information.
School Payment Options Available
Butler Primary School now has eftpos facilities available in the front office!
Payment methods for charges and contributions can now be made via:
- Eftpos
- Cash or Cheque (please use the school money envelopes and place the sealed envelope in the black letter boxes. The boxes are located in the wet areas of each of the blocks and the office)

- BSB: 016 338

Absentee Messaging Service
Due to the ease of this service, the sending of a text message to Butler Primary School to notify us of your child/ren’s absence has been embraced by many families.
Please send absentee messages through to 0419 091 075 with all of the following details so we can correctly update student records:
- Full name of your child/children
- Reason for absence
- Date of absence
Absences can also be phoned through to the office on 9562 1804.
As per Department of Education policy, it is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school of the reason for your child’s absence/s within three days of the absence. Failure to do this will mean that the absence will be marked as “unacceptable reason” affecting your child’s education and attendance record.
Students Arriving Late
Any student arriving late to school, after the siren sounds at 8.35am, will need to enter the school through the front office to collect a late note which is to be given to their class teacher.
Update Student Contact Information
If you have recently changed mobile numbers or moved address, it is important you update your contact information with the office. Please also advise if there is a change to any of your emergency contact information.

Chaplain’s Corner
HI Everyone,
Here we are at Week 6 of the term! I hope you are doing well and enjoying our eventful Term 3!
Last Friday I accompanied our Year 4-6 students to the Interstate Cross Country, along with Mr Pipiris and Ms Banfield. I felt very proud of our students and congratulate them on their sterling efforts! Well Done!!
In the spirit of Science Week which we celebrated last week, here is some interesting information about ‘Happiness.’
The New Economics Foundation recommends five happy things to do each day to keep your happiness quotient healthy. It is the happy equivalent of eating your greens:
Connect with those around you, and recognize the people in your life who are the cornerstones of your well-being.
.jpg?ts=1503554925)
Be active. Find a form of movement and exercise that you enjoy and do it regularly – go for a walk, spend time outside.
.jpg?ts=1503554925)
Pay attention to the world around you and the beauty that surrounds you.
.jpg?ts=1503554925)
Keep learning. Take up a new subject; rediscover an old passion; repair your bike; sign up for a course; learn a musical instrument.
.jpg?ts=1503554925)
Give your time, money, warmth, a smile, a gift, friendship – anything that will add to other people’s lives and help to motivate them to do the same.
Scientists have finally proved it – happiness is good for you. Those who are happy or have an optimistic and positive outlook are far less likely to suffer from clinical depression.
– from the Little Pocket Book of HAPPINESS by Lois Blyth.

Look after yourself and look after one another!
