A Note from the Principal
'Matilda Day' is Tomorrow!!
A huge thank you to our fabulous staff and parents who have supported our endeavour to raise funds for the Year 5 and 6 big day out to ‘Matilda the Musical’.
Tomorrow is our big day. Students will need to bring their ‘pocket’ money to buy morning tea from the cake stall. All sausage sizzles have been ordered and will be delivered to classrooms. Ice creams have been purchased and will be given out to those students who pre-ordered them.
Don’t forget it is a ‘gold coin’ donation Matilda dress up day. Students have been encouraged to dress up as a character from the Matilda story.
Improving safety around Butler Primary School
Butler Primary School is not alone with trying to find solutions to traffic congestion. The amount of school traffic during drop off and pick up times, combined with possible exposure to inattentive drivers, has increased significantly over the years and frequently puts children at risk.
As a school community we have had on-going concerns with regards to traffic issues within the school car-park and street parking.
If drivers show patience, tolerance and use skills such as giving way or letting others in, congestion can be eased and the level of driver frustration can be reduced.

Mrs Julie Woodhouse
Principal

IMPORTANT DATES FOR TERM 1, 2017 10 March – Matilda Day – dress up for gold coin donation, cake stall, sausage sizzle (pre-ordered). PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAYS FOR 2017: Monday, 21 August |
Parent Parking
To help ease congestion around the school during peak times we encourage families to walk their children to and from school wherever possible, especially in fine weather or park at the community centre car park and walk your children across the oval.
Families are reminded that parking is not permitted on grassed kerbside areas around the Pre-primary car park and along Tollesbury Avenue, as well as the bricked median strip in Cambourne Parkway or across any footpaths. Parking is also not permitted in bus bays. Please consider the safety of all other road users and pedestrians when parking and leaving schools grounds.
Please also give consideration and respect to owners of properties surrounding the school.
All usual road and parking rules apply around the school and parking fines are issued by rangers (who visit frequently) to those not adhering to the road rules. Please download the map below for parent parking information.

Harmony Day!
Harmony Day is being held on Tuesday, 21 of March! The theme is 'Everyone Belongs'. To celebrate this special day we are encouraging students to wear orange.
Eagles Fever has hit Butler Primary School
Members from the West Coast Eagles popped in for a quick visit to the school on Thursday, 23 February. Mrs Elliott made sure to get her picture taken with them!

Scientists in Schools
Our school is participating in Scientists in Schools and we’re looking for volunteer scientists interested in working with our staff and students – it would be great to have someone from our local community.
If you can spare an hour or two, a couple of times a term to show students how you use science in your work, we would love to hear from you!
We are looking for professionals working in a science or engineering-related area. This includes research and applied scientists, technologists and engineers, and medical and allied health professionals.
There are no fixed hours – it’s up to you and the teacher to decide how you can contribute.

Room 11 Assembly, Week 5
Room 11 enjoyed presenting their assembly in Week 4. The students have been learning about the school value aspire and have been setting goals to work towards. They shared their goals for the year with the audience as well as their aspirations for when they grow up. We have future electricians, midwives, marine biologists and vets in our classroom. The kids also had fun creating a movie to play at the beginning of their assembly and performed the song 'I can be anything'.
Well done Room 11.
Ms Tighe, Mrs Ferguson
Room 9 Assembly, Week 5
At the Senior Assembly of March 2, the students of Room 9 performed a play based on the Dreamtime story called, ‘How The Birds Got Their Colours’.
This related to our work regarding the history and culture of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and formed part of our studies in HASS, especially History.
We also sang our class song, 'Count On Me', which promotes our five School Values, and which we enjoy singing as a team.
We hoped you enjoyed the show!
Mr Radford, Mrs Thompson and Mrs Witt

Sending a text message to Butler Primary School to notify of your children’s absence is now available with many families embracing the ease of this service.
A reminder to families to please send absentee messages through to 0419 091 075 with the all of the following details so that we can correctly update student records:
- Full name of your child/children
- Reason for absence
- Date of absence
Absences are still able to be phoned through to 9562 1804.
As per Department of Education policy, it is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school of the reason for your child’s absence/s within three days of the absence. Failure to do this will mean that the absence will be marked as “unacceptable reason” affecting your child’s education.

Donating Uniforms
Butler Primary School is seeking donations of uniforms, including polo shirts, dresses and suitable navy bottoms, especially in sizes 8-12. If you are able to assist please drop the clean clothing into the front office.
From the Library
After only three weeks of borrowing, lots of children are already forgetting to bring in their library books for either renewing or exchanging. Lots of children become upset when they can’t borrow. Library books must be returned before children can borrow another book.
Please help your child remember his or her library book and bag.

Chaplain’s Corner
Hello Everyone,
I hope you are well and that you enjoyed your long weekend. More than half of Term 1 is done, with just under half of the term to go. Keep up the great work!
This week, let’s look at another of our Core Values – Integrity.
Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.
“Good character is that quality which makes one dependable whether being watched or not, which makes one truthful when it is to one's advantage to be a little less than truthful, which makes one courageous when faced with great obstacles, which endows one with the firmness of wise self-discipline.”
- Arthur S. Adams

I wish you all a Fantastic Fortnight!
Kind regards,
Ms Hunter

Fundraising Committee Wanted
If you or a bunch of friends have some ideas for fundraising for the P&C this year we are looking for anyone keen to form a Fundraising Committee. Currently the P&C has no plans to fundraise this year due to too few members which means the school won’t be able to purchase extras that the P&C usually pay for. You don’t have to commit to continual volunteering, all we ask is that people come to help out once. Many hands make light work.
For further information contact the P&C via email at butlerps.pandc@gmail.com or through the P&C Facebook page “Butler Primary P&C Association” – please see details above.
Canteen Helpers
If you or anyone you know would like to volunteer to help in the canteen for an hour or so please see Shelly in the canteen, email her at butlerpscanteen@gmail.com , call the school or send us a message on the P&C Facebook page.
Next P&C Meeting
The next P&C Meeting will be held in the staffroom at BPS on Wednesday, 22 March at 6:30pm. PLEASE COME AND SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING IN AND AROUND THE SCHOOL!
Many thanks from your P&C Committee:
