Principal's Message

Welcome back to students, staff and parents for Term 2. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and feel rested and ready for another great term ahead at Butler Primary School.

We have had a great start to what is going to be a very busy term. Students and staff have settled back into routine very quickly.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the school community for all of the support shown during a time of small changes last term. Working in partnership with the School Board and responding to feedback provided from the Parents and Citizens Association some adjustments were made to our school policies and procedures. We also revisited a number of established school rules to ensure that all students behave responsibly and with care in the classroom and playground. I appreciate your patience and understanding of our efforts to continue to strengthen and embed our culture of high performance and high care.

I look forward to working alongside you all, and appreciate and value your ongoing contributions to our school.

Mrs Julie Woodhouse
Principal

Money Envelopes

A new system has been introduced for the school to receive money for incursions, excursions, contributions and other events. When there is an upcoming event parents and carers will receive notification with a permission slip and an envelope. The envelopes are to be used if you would like to pay cash for the event. Please complete the outside of the envelope and enclose correct money inside. Students can then place their envelopes into the black letter boxes found in the wet areas of the teaching block before the start of school. Students in demountable classrooms can use the letterbox in Block Two. For those in Kindy and Pre-Primary parents can use the box in the school office.

Permission slips need to be returned to the class teacher.

As always, the option to pay via direct deposit is available:

PP1 – Preparing for Mother's Day Pamper Party!

The students in Pre-Primary 1 have been busy preparing for the annual Mother's Day Pamper Party. They have been making and writing in cards, listening to stories about mums, learning songs, making gifts and using their artistic skills to draw their mums. We are very excited about having our mums come to school to spoil and entertain them! We hope to see all of the mums on Friday 6th May at 9.00am (and if mums can't make it - a nanna, aunty, friend or neighbour is welcome to come in her place).

PP2 – Sounds and Sentences

The Students in PP2 had a great holiday and are now ready for a term filled with lots of fun and learning. This week we did a community circle to talk about all the fun activities we did on the holidays. We chose our favourite activity and wrote a sentence and painted a picture of it. We have been learning about using capital letters at the beginning of our sentences and a full stop at the end. We are learning to sound out our words all by ourselves. Our teachers are very proud of us!

Miss Snowball

PP3 – Guided Reading Superstars

This term the students in PP3 are beginning Guided Reading. They are so excited and are feeling very grown up at the idea of being able to read all by themselves. Their first lesson was all about pointing to the words that were being read and moving their finger in the correct direction. This was made even more enjoyable by using finger lights. The students have also been playing some fun games to help them learn their sight words.

PP4 - It's Time to Spoil Our Mummies!

In PP4 we have been very busy preparing for our Mother's Day Pamper Party, which is on Friday 6th of May. We have been learning some songs that we can not wait to sing to them and we have been working very hard making lovely gifts.

These are our beautiful portraits of our mummies that we drew and painted with edicol dye.

Here are our cards that we have been busy making. We made sure we used our very best hand writing!

We have been busy decorating our pot plants and we are looking forward to planting them in science. Have a look how clever we are!

We are very excited to spoil our mums this Mother's Day and to give them our wonderful gifts!

Choir T-shirt Competition

I'd like to say a huge thank you to all the students who submitted their designs for the Choir T-shirt Competition. The high standards made it extremely hard to choose the top five!

An honourable mention goes out to the designs handed in by Marinel Brits and Honey Elder.

In 3rd place, with her award winning design was Carys Davis. Well done!

Billie Sykes entered in this creation to win 2nd place! A superb effort!

Could we have a drum roll please … … …?

In 1st place with his outstanding, winning entry is Bailey Ramsay-Tennant. What an amazing effort!

A huge thank you goes out to the staff at Joondalup Music for donating the guitar pack to give to our first prize winner. What an amazing prize! The Choir t-shirts are in the process of being made, so look out for the new Choir uniform soon!

Miss Jurgowiak

Harmony Week Fundraiser for Nakuru Hope

In Term 1, as part of Harmony Week, a fundraiser was held raising money for Nakuru Hope, Gabriel Learning Centre School/Orphanage in Kenya. Butler students raised an amazing $750.00! They will be using the money to purchase books for their Library as the children love learning to read. Please find attached a thank you note from Nakuru Hope.

Mrs Galton-Fenzi

Go Blue for Autism

On the last day of Term 1, Friday 8th April, we participated in an Autism Awareness Day. Our students dressed in blue as this is the internationally recognised colour to signify ASD (autism spectrum disorder). Students gave a gold coin donation to take part, and we raised an amazing $825! This was donated directly to Autism Association of Western Australia. Well done everyone!

ANZAC Ceremony

Butler Primary School's ANZAC ceremony allowed us to reflect upon the sacrifice made by the men and women who served in World War 1 and subsequent conflicts. Anzac Day goes beyond the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915. It is the day on which we remember Australians who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. The spirit of Anzac, with its human qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity. It was an incredibly moving tribute; the choir sang, our guest speakers, Mr Brian Pragnell and Mr Tom Burke, shared their war experiences and thoughts and Mr Burke played the bagpipes. The ceremony concluded with the laying of the wreath. The Peace Wall, that was created by our students last year and is at the front of our administration block, is an ongoing representation of the ANZAC legend and a reminder of the cost of the freedoms we have today. A big THANK YOU to Mr Williams for his hard work in organising the Anzac Ceremony. The choir, led by Ms Jurgowiak, sang beautifully. Our student leaders, Kian Gregory and Erin Muir hosted the event professionally and respectfully. It was a special event that will be remembered for many years to come by those that attended.

Information on Anxiety:

Anxiety is more than just feeling worried or stressed. While stress and anxious feelings are a common response to a stressful situation where a person is under pressure. It usually passes when the stressful situation passes or the 'stressor' is removed.

Anxiety is when these anxious feelings don't subside, and exist without any particular reason or cause.

BUTLER OUT OF HOURS SCHOOL CARE

Butler's YMCA provides affordable care before and after school every Monday to Friday.

Attendance - Everyday Counts

For students to succeed in academic achievement, attendance at school is of paramount importance. Our motto for attendance is 'Everyday Counts'. Once a child is enrolled in school, it is a legal requirement for them to attend. It is also a legal requirement for schools to record any form of absence.

If your child is unable to attend school for any reason, please contact the school at your earliest possible convenience. If you are withdrawing your child from school for a holiday, you must put your intentions in writing addressed to the principal.

Parent Parking

Parents are reminded that parking is not permitted on grassed kerbside areas around the Pre-primary car park and along Tollesbury Avenue, as well as the bricked median strip in Cambourne Parkway or across any footpaths. Please consider the safety of all other road users and pedestrians when parking and leaving schools grounds.

All usual road and parking rules apply around the school and parking fines are issued by visiting rangers to those not adhering to the road rules. Please download the map below for parent parking information.

It is great to see that more families are walking their children to and from school or parking in the community centre car park and walking their children from there, helping to ease traffic congestion around the school.

Get involved in the School Banking program

Butler Primary School P&C is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students.

The School Banking program provides children with an opportunity to deposit money into their Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account at school each week. The program is about how often your child makes deposits, not how much they deposit.

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives $5 when a student makes their first ever School Banking deposit and 5% on every deposit made through the school (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit).

Getting involved in School Banking is easy!

You can get involved in the School Banking program by opening a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account at your local branch. All you need to bring is your current identification as well as your child's birth certificate. If you are an existing Commonwealth Bank customer and have NetBank, you can open an account online.

If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.

More information about School Banking will be available shortly.
